8 Money Habits of the Successfully Rich: Insights from “The Millionaire Next Door”

    March 25, 2025 /

I’ve always been curious about the money habits of successful, wealthy people. Often, these habits are what lead them to become extremely rich. We need specific habits to help us succeed and build our wealth to achieve our financial goals and we can adopt some of these effective practices by learning from those who are already successful. One of my favorite books is “The Millionaire Next Door,” by Dr. Thomas J. Stanley and Dr. William D. Danko. This book is based on extensive research they conducted on millionaires over many years. They spoke with more than 500 millionaires in personal interviews, and their findings revealed many surprising habits among these…

8 Lessons from A Reluctant Businessman: Yvon Chouinard and Patagonia’s Business Philosophy

    March 20, 2025 /

I encountered Yvon Chouinard many years ago after his talk on business’s moral role in environmental sustainability and immediately bought his book “Let my people go surfing. The Education of a Reluctant Businessman.”   “Going back to a simpler life based on living by sufficiency rather than excess is not a step backward. Rather, returning to a simpler way allows us to regain our dignity, puts us in touch with the land, and makes us value human contact again.” — Yvon Chouinard “How you climb a mountain is more important than reaching the top.”  — Yvon Chouinard, Let My People Go Surfing: The Education of a Reluctant Businessman The word ‘reluctant’…

8 Ways to Create and Define Our Goals Using Imagination

    March 13, 2025 /

IIn 1979, a study was done with graduating Harvard MBA students to determine whether they had written down their goals for the future and made plans to achieve them. The results showed that only 3% had written down their goals, 13% had goals but hadn’t written them down, and 84% had no specific goals. In 1989, researchers discovered that the 13% who had goals earned twice as much as the 84% who didn’t. Even more impressive was the 3% who had written down their goals; they were making ten times more on average than the other 97% combined.

The Parable of the Beggar and the Diamond

    March 6, 2025 /

“The Beggar and the Diamond” is a captivating story and a retelling of a traditional Hindu parable by one of my favorite authors, Stephen King. He included the story in his collection of short stories, “Nightmares and Dreamscapes,” released in 1993. This story reflects on the deeper meanings of wealth and value, which resonate throughout its narrative. It encourages us to consider what truly matters in life beyond material possessions. The story “The Beggar and the Diamond” illustrates how we all play specific roles in our lives, whether in society, at work, or within our communities. Each of us adopts a unique way of thinking and a set of beliefs…
